1. You're a member of the Peanuts Collector Club!!!!!!
(What??? You mean you're not??? Well, keep reading!)
First, let's pull out the history books and learn a little about how our Club began...
In 1983, Phil Podley trumpeted wife Andrea's Peanuts fixation by placing an ad in a national
collector's magazine. Phil intended to prove, once and for all, that Andrea was the only person in the
entire universe whose devotion to Snoopy had become so consuming.
Imagine his surprise, when Andrea received
42 replies to that ad.
Word spread quickly, and soon Andrea could not keep up with the mail and phone calls.
The next step was inevitable: she founded The Peanuts Collector Club, with the blessings of United Media
and Charles "Sparky" Schulz.
The first newsletter, quite modest by later standards, appeared in August of 1983.
Now, almost a quarter of a century later, the Club has blossomed with the vigor of a healthy pumpkin patch.
Roughly 1,500 world-wide members eagerly await each quarterly newsletter, jam-packed with at least 60 pages
of information about the Peanuts gang, new products, informative articles by -- and concerning -- individual
members and their collecting preferences, and always-updated "definitive" lists of books, videos, posters,
ink-stampers, Christmas ornaments, and all the other hundreds of licensed items which have displayed Snoopy and the gang.
The Club has become Andrea's full-time occupation, and she cherishes both her involvement
and the contact with so many like-minded people. The Club is an outlet for all those who love Charlie Brown
and his friends, and wish to share their interest...either by trading information or collectible merchandise,
or expressing delight over the latest Peanuts newspaper strip.
In Andrea's own words...
"I believe collecting is an extraordinary learning experience, as well as a hobby.
Remember, collectors are historians in their own right. We learn a lot about one another, and about ourselves.
Without this hobby, I would never have met so many of you, whom I'm privileged to call my friends."
Membership dues currently are not being accepted.
The Club will be undergoing a transformation during 2008, and in the meanwhile
we are not accepting new members or membership renewals. Keep watching this space, and
we'll share details about the "new" Peanuts Collector Club as they become available.
